Homemade Sloppy Joe Sauce

Why buy Sloppy Joe sauce when you can make it healthier at home? And homemade tastes so much better.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 cups celery chopped
  • 2 cups onions chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups bell peppers chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey or molasses
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dried mustard
  • 1 small can tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup vinegar

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan or stockpot, mix all above. Heat through, and then cook to desired consistency, about 30 minutes.
  • Mix desired amount with browned ground beef to serve now. Can as directed, or freeze excess in quart size bags for later use.
  • Ladle into sterilized canning jars, leaving 1/2” headspace.
  • Put on lids and rings, tightening to finger tight.
  • Process in a water bath canner for 20 minutes.
  • Yields about 10 pints.
