Homemade Sloppy Joe Sauce
Who doesn’t love a good ole Sloppy Joe? Make it better by making your own Homemade Sloppy Joe sauce! Best part? You can make it to use now, to freeze it, or even for canning. How great and versatile is that?
Having a large garden, I tend to grow a lot of tomatoes. But then again, we eat a lot of tomato-based meals.
We adore easy meals.
Sloppy Joe’s are a go-to meal in this house, especially since on a busy day I can throw it in the crockpot before heading outside and it heats through in less than 4 hours.
Or I can have my hubby ground the beef and cook it himself if I have something going on.
I am not opposed to buying that lovely canned sloppy joe sauce in a pinch, but I would rather have homemade any day.
Especially using things that I grew myself.
I can easily process my tomatoes into sauce to make this recipe. Typically I use about a gallon of fresh tomatoes to make enough sauce for this recipe. It’s really not a lot in comparison to the typical yield of tomatoes. (This sloppy joe sauce uses fewer tomatoes to make than my salsa recipe, that’s for sure!)
More Homegrown and Homemade
Since we have the farm, I’ve been trying to lean more on growing and making most of our food supply. For now, it’s basically vegetable-based, as I do not have any farm animals yet. And I still need to convince my husband to go hunting. (He’s opposed to killing Bambi himself, even though he loves venison. LOL)
I’m hoping to start raising chickens and meat rabbits soon, and I’m pushing for goats eventually. (And maybe a dairy cow, but I have to start somewhere, right?) In the meantime, I try to watch for sales on meat and stock up when I can. I’m hoping to save up and get a 1/2 a steer for our freezer this year, but that is dependent upon the cost of it.
For now, I just purchase whatever is on sale and deal with it where meat is concerned. Even the worst cut of meat can become a wonderful meal if it’s cooked properly.
Homemade Sauce
I love using homemade sauces and canned goods. It’s a little egotistical of me, but I have to admit I love the bragging rights of growing and making our food.
And my husband is always amazed at the things I make. Canned sloppy joe sauce and a lot of other homemade sauces makes me happy. And honestly, it saves me money.
Try making this Homemade Sloppy Joe Sauce for your family and see how much they love it!

I made it! but I only wanted the sauce? no ground beef. without the ground beef it made 3 pints haha and it was very sweet, but when you open the jar and add it to the beef it probably won’t be as sweet
