We all love takeout. Who doesn’t? But we don’t eat a lot of it around here. Craving those fast food chicken nuggets? Make some to have at home instead. These Copycat Fast Food Chicken Nuggets will make you glad you can skip the drive-thru line.

Fast Food from your Freezer?

I have a problem with cooking a lot to put into the freezer on the weekends so that I can save time during the week on dinner. I don’t see it as a bag thing. And I know when the kids show up, they don’t ever hesitate to get into the freezer and ask for something. They may eat here, or they may ask if they can take some home.

But feeding them is loving them to me. And it makes me happy.

I am not the biggest fan of takeout food. If you look around the site, you can tell that. I much rather would be in control of not only the ingredients in my food, but the quality of it all. I’m not saying that fast food is the devil… I just like to have more control.

I adore nuggets from those beautiful golden arches tho. It’s my downfall. It’s a weakness.

But am I willing to get in the car, waste the time and the gas to go get them in the midst of a craving? Nope.

Making a few batches to have in the freezer makes my life so much easier. I can just grab some out, toss them in the air fryer or the oven, and BOOM. Takeout without the hassle.

One recipe of these makes a decent amount of nuggets. I can feed 4 people comfortably for supper. But you can make a batch just for the freezer, or make a couple of batches so that you have some to grab and reheat quickly for another dinner or a quick snack. I have included how I chose to reheat them in the recipe, but you can also toss them in the oven or microwave to reheat.

Servings: 4
Course: Appetizer, Main Course, Snack
Cuisine: American
Ingredients Method

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts cubed
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Cornstarch
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • ¼ cup mustard
  • 1-2 cups of water

Method

To make nuggets:
  1. Place chicken, eggs, and salt and pepper to taste in a food processor. Grind until well combined and no large cubes remain.
  2. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, create “nuggets” by scooping and rolling into balls.
  3. Toss in cornstarch and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Press flat to form nuggets from the balls.
  4. Refrigerate while making batter.
To make batter:
  1. Combine flour, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Add in prepared yellow mustard and water to form a loose batter, whisking well.
To cook nuggets:
  1. Preheat oil to 350F. Dip prepared nuggets into batter and place directly into hot oil. Flip as needed to brown evenly.
  2. Fry for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. Drain on paper towels.
To freeze:
  1. Freeze for 1 hour on a parchment lined cookie sheet. After 1 hour, transfer into freezer bags, removing as much air as possible.
  2. Recommended reheating- air fry for 5-6 minutes at 350F.
